Window Tint Laws in Oregon
Laws change. Verify current requirements with your local DMV/RMV before choosing or installing film. This is not legal advice.
VLT is visible light transmission: lower percentages mean darker windows. A film's labeled shade is not necessarily the finished glass-plus-film reading. The limits below cover ordinary passenger cars unless stated otherwise.
- Front side windows
- At least 50% film VLT AND at least 35% completed-window VLT; film reflectance at most 13%.
- Rear side windows
- At least 50% film VLT AND at least 35% completed-window VLT; reflectance at most 13%, subject to AS-3 exception.
- Back window
- At least 50% film VLT AND at least 35% completed-window VLT; reflectance at most 13%, subject to AS-3 exception.
- Windshield strip
- Tint only on top six inches; strip may have lower material and completed transmission than ordinary side/rear standards.
Vehicle class and conditions
Measurement basis: Both film and completed-window limits
SUV, van and multipurpose-vehicle rear sides: Lower film and completed VLT permitted behind driver on qualifying MPVs with both mirrors and federal AS-3 glazing compliance.
SUV, van and multipurpose-vehicle back window: Same qualifying MPV exception with both mirrors and AS-3 compliance.
- Simple 35% entry omits independent 50% film minimum. MPV exception relaxes transmission only, not every restriction.
- Mirror finish and specified colors/material types prohibited. Installer certificate required in vehicle. Medical side/rear documentation does not imply windshield exception.
