Window Tint Laws in Arizona
Laws change. Verify current requirements with your local DMV/RMV before choosing or installing film. This is not legal advice.
VLT is visible light transmission: lower percentages mean darker windows. A film's labeled shade is not necessarily the finished glass-plus-film reading. The limits below cover ordinary passenger cars unless stated otherwise.
- Front side windows
- 33% VLT ±3%; reflectance 35% ±3%.
- Rear side windows
- No VLT minimum in rear-side exception; reflectance at most 35% ±3%.
- Back window
- No VLT minimum under separate rear-window exceptions; see reflectance/mirror conditions.
- Windshield strip
- Transparent topmost material with lower edge at least 29 inches above undepressed seat, measured five inches ahead of bottom of seat backrest with seat rearward/lowest and vehicle level; not red or amber.
Vehicle class and conditions
Measurement basis: Combined glass-plus-film visible light transmission, not the film label alone.
SUV, van and multipurpose-vehicle rear sides: No VLT minimum in rear-side exception; reflectance at most 35% ±3%.
SUV, van and multipurpose-vehicle back window: No VLT minimum under separate rear-window exceptions; see reflectance/mirror conditions.
- Section A(6) rear-side/back exception depends on reflectance. A(10) separately exempts rear glass with both mirrors showing 200 feet; do not attach mirror conditions to every rear-side exception.
- Transmission includes glazing. Department-issued medical exception requires appropriate physician attestation; manufacturer certification applies.
